A reroof under an existing array is really two projects that have to interlock: the roofing work and the solar work. When they are scheduled properly, the array is off the roof for the shortest possible window.
Here is how the sequence runs on a typical residential project.
1. Site visit and system review
We look at panel count, racking type, inverter setup, roof pitch and access. That determines crew size, storage needs and how long removal and reset will each take.
2. Coordination with your roofing contractor
We agree the removal date and the target reset date directly with the roofer. You should not be the middle party passing messages between two trades.
3. Removal day
- System is shut down, disconnected and locked out
- Modules are removed, labeled and moved off the roof
- Rails, mounts and flashing come off, leaving a clear deck
- Panels and hardware go into safe, protected on-site storage
4. Roofing work
Your roofing contractor works on a clear deck, which is faster and produces a better roof than working around obstacles. Any decking repairs happen at this stage.
5. Reset and recommissioning
- New mounts set into the new roof and properly flashed
- Racking reinstalled to the correct spacing and torque
- Modules remounted and rewired
- Full system test, inverter check and monitoring verification
6. Back in production
We confirm the array is producing as expected before we leave, and where a reinspection or utility notification is required we handle it.
